Sophie’s Art Tour archive contains over 400 books and exhibition catalogues, over 300 music sheets from 1959 to 1984, contemporary artworks from 2009 onwards and original combat sketches from 1959 to 1976 as well as a large digital collection containing scans of maps, recordings of artist interviews conducted by Sophie’s Art Tour, artist talks, photographs of studio visits, and a constantly expanding record of contemporary performances and art exhibitions.

The archive contains folders on Vietnamese artists dating back to the early modernists right up to today, copies of academic texts including bios, essays, theses and scanned books on Vietnamese history and art history and finally, films made in Vietnam, films about Vietnam and films by Vietnamese artists.

Below you will find a small selection of the archive's contents including print books, monographs, catalogues, posters, graphic novels, essays, publications and artworks which illuminate the lives and works of Vietnamese and Southeast Asian artists. From autobiographies of combat artists to illustrated anthologies of contemporary poetry, from signed debut exhibition catalogues to career defining monographs and from wartime sketches to large contemporary oil paintings.

Sophie's Art Tour is a research project and much of that work involves visiting the homes and studios of artists and arts practitioners all over Vietnam. By listening to the experiences of artists who have witnessed and documented major changes in the country’s modern and contemporary history it is possible to gain a deeper insight into the personal narrative of the nation and the experiences and motivations of each generation as they live through eras of colonialism, war, independence and breakneck globalisation.
